Who will win Adelaide Strikers vs Melbourne Stars, BBL 2020?
Table-topping Melbourne Stars will look to bounce back from just their second defeat of the season when they take on Adelaide Strikers at the Adelaide Oval. The match takes place on January 22 and is scheduled to start at 19:10 local time.
The Stars had won eight in a row before defeat to Sydney Sixers in a rain-affected match last time out, and they have ten wins from 12 in total this season. Marcus Stoinis’ outstanding batting form has been central to that.
Their only other defeat prior to the Sydney match, however, was against Adelaide Strikers before Christmas. Jonathan Wells starred in the Strikers’ win on that occasion, and they have since returned to form to move to six victories in ten completed games to move third in the table.
ADS vs MLS Toss Prediction
Melbourne Stars’ decision to field first after winning the bat flip against Sydney Sixers did not pay off last time out, but the Adelaide wicket does not tend to lean strongly to the team batting or fielding first.
ADS vs MLS Pitch Condition
Adelaide has favoured bowling so far, with plenty of wickets having fallen at the Adelaide Oval – to both spinners and seamers – so far this season.
ADS vs MLS Weather Report
Though the evening is set to be cloudy in Adelaide there is very little chance of rain. There will be a bit of wind to contend with, however.
Adelaide Strikers find themselves at number 3 in the points table with 6 wins in 11 matches. Strikers have 3 wins in 5 matches at their home venue. In their last home game, ADS bowled out Brisbane Heat for 100 runs and chased it down with 10 wickets in hand. While Phillips Salt and Jake Weatherald shined with the bat in the chase, it was skipper Travis Head who spearheaded Strikers’ last innings against Hobart Hurricanes.
Travis Head scored 79 off 40 balls with 5 fours and 6 sixes in his innings at number 3. In addition, Jonathan Wells (45*) and Matthew Short (33) also added crucial runs at numbers 4 and 6 respectively. While Rashid Khan and Liam O Connor were wicketless and expensive in their spells defending 186 runs in the last match, Wes Agar and Peter Siddle have shown consistency with the ball.
Michale Neser is another player to watch out for in the Strikers’ bowling attack. The good news for Strikers at the moment is their batting form with the middle-order batsmen stepping up and making crucial contributions. Moreover, Rashid Khan’s spell will be crucial and could tilt the game either way for Adelaide Strikers.
The table-toppers of BBL 2019-20 lost their 2nd game of the season following an 8-match winning streak in the last game. Playing at away venue against Sydney Sixers, MLS started off well picking up 2 wickets for 26 runs in 5 overs bowling first. However, the bowlers couldn’t continue the rhythm and conceded 113 runs in the next 8 overs without a wicket. This performance came just after Melbourne Stars successfully defended 141 runs in their previous match at home.
Chasing 144 against SYS in a rain-affected match (reduced to 14 overs), MLS lost by 21 runs. Marcus Stoinis scored 62 off 37 with 4 sixes in his innings opening for Stars. Hilton Cartwright, Nic Maddinson, and Glenn Maxwell failed to score big and save Stars’ sinking ship. Cartwright and Maxwell are crucial to the batting set-up for MLS along with Stoinis. These 3 will need to find their form and get back to their scoring ways soon.
In the bowling department, Lamichhane though expensive was top wicket-taker with 2 for 38. Daniel Worrall and Clint Hinchliffe are the players to watch out for in the MLS bowling department. Ben Dunk hasn’t featured in the playing XI in the last two matches and would be a good option at number 3.
