Indian Leg-Spinner Amit Mishra,37, has been ruled out of IPL 2020. Playing for the Delhi Capitals, Mishra sustained a flexor tendon injury to his bowling hand’s ring finger while attempting a return catch against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Amit Mishra was the third-highest wicket-taker for the Delhi Capitals in the IPL and had featured in their last three matches. He took three wickets, all of the top-order batsmen, bowling with an economy rate of 7.20.
The Capitals may feel Amit Mishra’s absence as his departure leaves them short a leg spinner. While leg-spin has been highly successful throughout the tournament with the likes of Rahul Chahar, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Piyush Chawla being among the top ten wicket-takers, the absence of Mishra may harm the Delhi capitals.
The Capitals are yet to name a replacement for their bowler, who has taken 160 wickets in his IPL career. He recently completed 100 wickets for the Delhi Capitals as well.
His injury may allow Delhi to bring back Axar Patel, who missed out on the last game. Along with Axar Patel, Ashwin and Sandeep Lamichhane will enable Delhi to still field quality seniors.
Their bench strength will be tested now that their most experienced leggie has been ruled out of the tournament.
This was his first top level tournament in a while as he has been out of reckoning for the national side and in and out of his domestic side.
