As the fourth Ashes Test witnesses similar scenes to Gautam Gambhir’s Test-like field settings, KKR recalls Gautam Gambhir’s game setting for MS Dhoni

During the recently concluded fourth Ashes Test between Australia and England, it was test cricket of the highest order. Day 5 at the Sydney Cricket Ground presented a stern challenge for the visitors. In spite of having all 10 wickets in hand, England’s victory never looked likely. They eventually avoided defeat by playing for a draw because of this.

All the Australian fielders came around the bat to take maximum wickets when England’s tail-enders were blocking everything. It’s rare to see so many fielders around the bat, so the fans were highly excited. During the final few overs, the hosts were determined to win.

In an interesting fielding setup, KKR skipper Gautam Gambhir positioned a lot of fielders around Dhoni. To keep Dhoni quiet, Gambhir used two slips, a short leg, and a silly point. Gambhir’s decision was also justified by the spinners Piyush Chawla and Sunil Narine, who both prevented Dhoni from taking runs. Gambhir’s tactics were highly appreciated as KKR eventually won by eight wickets.
