The 2nd match of the Caribbean Premier League 2020 will be played between Barbados Tridents vs St Kitts and Nevis Patriots at the Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba in Trinidad.
It will be the first game of the season for the defending champions and they would like to make a promising start to the tournament. Being led by Jason Holder who likes leading the side from the front, Tridents would be looking to improve their poor record against the Patriots. In the last six games between the two sides, the Tridents have won only once which incidentally came in the last season. They have a very strong side going into this game with several match-winners in their ranks. Holder would want his boys to play to their potential in this game and earn the first points for the season.
They have a strong opening combination in Johnson Charles and new entrant Samarah Brooks and they will have to lay a strong platform at the top. Corey Anderson, Shai Hope, and Jonathan Carter make the middle order look rock-solid going into this game. With the likes of Jason Holder and Mitchell Santner down the order, they have good firepower with the bat. It is however their bowling that makes the side extremely strong. Holder and Raymon Reifer form a lethal opening blowing pair. Anderson is known for varying his pace and stopping the flow of runs. Ashely Nurse and Rashid Khan are likely to test the Patriots’ batting with their variations.
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots
There would be a lot of pressure on new captain Rayad Emrit as he leads his side into the first game of the season. It is fairly a new side and is missing out on some of its biggest players from the last season due to player transfers and several others pulling out due to national commitments. The young captain will have to marshal his resources well going into this game. He will take heart from the fact that his side has had a good record against the Tridents and would like his players to draw inspiration from those wins and do well in this game.
At the top Evin Lewis and Chris Lynn form a very powerful opening combination and the side would be expecting a good start from them in this game. In the middle, the likes of Ben Dunk, Denesh Ramdin, and Emrit will need to play strong hands as the lower order comprising if Nick Kelly and Imran Khan are relatively inexperienced. It will definitely be a challenge for them against the Tridents’ spin attack. Their bowlers will need to deliver the punch in this game as they are up against a very strong batting line-up. The pace trio of Sohail Tanvir, Sheldon Cottrell, and Alzari Joseph will need to deliver their best. Ish Sodhi and Emrit will need to play good supporting roles with the ball in the game.
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots: Chris Lynn, Ben Dunk, Evin Lewis, Nick Kelly, Sohail Tanvir, Ish Sodhi, Sheldon Cottrell, Denesh Ramdin, Rayad Emrit, Imran Khan, Alzarri Joseph, Joshua De Silva, Dominic Drakes, Colin Archibald, Jon Russ Jaggesar, Jahmar Hamilton.
