Daniel Sams, who was the leading wicket-taker in the Big Bash League 2019-20 season, has been roped in by Delhi Capitals for the upcoming IPL season in the UAE.
Jason Roy, the England opening batsmen has withdrawn himself from the IPL citing personal reasons and will be replaced by fast bowler Daniel Sams. The statement of pulling out by Roy came after a side strain which he got while preparing for the upcoming T20 series against Pakistan.
For Daniel Sams, it will be his first stint in the IPL following a dominant performance in the BBL 09 for which he has also awarded a first international call up for the limited-over series of Australia against England in September.
Daniel Sams on his selection at Delhi Capitals said: “The IPL is a huge platform for any cricketer, and back home, we all follow the tournament extremely closely every year. I feel fortunate to be a part of it this year, and I’m thankful to the Delhi Capitals management for giving me this opportunity. I can’t wait to join the rest of the players in the UAE.”
With his left-arm fast bowling and good skills at death-overs, Daniel Sams will be a good inclusion to Delhi Capitals. The team traded Trent Boult last year to Mumbai Indians and will be needed Sams services this year to reach the play-offs.
A brief look at the players profile;
Who is Daniel Sams?
Daniel Richard Sams is an Australian cricketer from New South Wales who plays for Sydney Thunders in the Big Bash League.
Reason for prominence
The high-point in the career of Daniel Sams turned out to be the Big Bash League 2019-20 season where he was the leading wicket-taker in the tournament. He picked up 30 wickets, which was the most in the tournament’s history in the single edition and 8 more than his next compatriots Chris Morris & Tom Curran.
What to expect from Daniel Sams in the IPL 2020
Currently, Delhi Capitals have no left-arm fast bowler in the squad, so Daniel Sams will be welcomed by the team very happily. Left-arm bowlers always produce magical things on the cricket field. With new ball and death bowling skills, Sams is expected to perform well in his debut season. Good control of the new ball and wicket-taking ability at the death will help Sams to be in the wicket-taking list. His experience in playing BBL, one of the best leagues around the world, will definitely help Sams. BBL is known for producing high-quality, tense situations, and electrifying matches.
Where he is NOW?
Daniel Sams is currently in England preparing for limited over series against England. He was named by Cricket Australia for a three-match T20 and three-match ODI series on the back of his outstanding BBL performance. It is his first call-up for the national duty.
