Karthik made a statement saying that he would like to focus on his batting, which is why he is stepping down as skipper.
The Knight Riders are currently fourth in the table with four wins and three losses in the first half of the season.

Karthik has initially struggled with fluency, having shuffled around the middle-order throughout the first half.

He has made 108 runs so far with a beautiful 58 against the Kings XI Punjab.

Karthik was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders in for INR 7.4 Crore in 2018. He was appointed captain and led his side to the playoffs in 2018, while they finished 5th in 2019.

World cup winning skipper Morgan to lead Knight Riders

Morgan was the primary candidate for the role, having scored 175 runs at a strike-rate of nearly 130. He has chipped in with some crucial knocks in the middle and is looking very fluent.

Morgan was bought at the auction for INR 5.25 crores. He shares a close relationship with coach Brendon Mccullum, which would have been a critical factor influencing his signing.

Morgan has been purposeful, involving himself in all the discussions and lending his experience well to the side. He also helps provide a stable middle-order, allowing the Kolkata Knight Riders to remove some burden of Andre Russel.

He has also played for the Knight Riders in 2012 and has grown to become a fabulous player.
The franchise owners have stated that they are fortunate to have a world cup winning skipper willing to lead the side.

The Knight Riders will next take on the Mumbai Indians in what is to be an interesting encounter.
