Ruturaj Gaikwad had starred once again in a six-wicket win against Kolkata Knight Riders who needed the win very badly and now the defeat has hurt their chances to qualify for the playoffs big time. It was KKR who was batting first and reached the score of 172 thanks to some brilliance from Nitish Rana and a late surge from Dinesh Karthik but that was not enough in the end. Ruturaj Gaikwad provided the start and Ravindra Jadeja gave the finishing touches to get the win by six wickets.

The 49th match of the IPL 2020. Kolkata Knight Riders need a win very badly and Chennai Super Kings are ready to spoil their party. With six wins and six losses and two matches left in the bank, KKR needed to win the match at any cost to strengthen their chances of qualification for playoffs. That didn’t happen for them. They are not out of the competition yet but with the defeat, their chances have now become very low and they will rely heavily on other matches to go in their way.
Kolkata Knight Riders innings – Nitish Rana act in the show
Shubman Gill is the leading run-scorer for KKR and his partner Nitish Rana has been in fine form. The two young sensations opened the innings for KKR. And things went pretty well for the team at the start. The pair put on fifty-stand together. Gill was the first to go on 26.
Rana went on to strike from the other end. Though wickets continued to tumble from the other end but the left-hander was in run-flowing form. Sunil Narine, Rinku Singh could not add much to the score.
Eoin Morgan then joined Rana in the 13th over. Lungi Ngidi got Rana in the 18th over to dent KKR chances of finishing with a high score. But, a late surge from Dinesh Karthik lifted the team’s total to 172 in the end.
Karthik was not out on 21 off 10 balls.
Lungi Ngidi, returning for CSK, got two wickets. Mitchell Santner, Ravindra Jadeja, and Karn Sharma picked up one wicket each.
Chennai Super Kings innings – Ruturaj Gaikwad makes it two in two for CSK
Ruturaj Gaikwad has once again starred in a thrilling six-wicket win. Opening the innings with his new partner, Shane Watson, the pair also put on a fifty-stand. Watson, once again struggled as he ate up too many balls and finally got out on 14 off 19 balls.
Ambati Rayudu then joined Gaikwad to steer the innings. The pair scored some quick runs. They added 68 runs in double-quick time of 37 balls. Rayudu got out then for 38 runs off 20 balls.
MS Dhoni was quick to go for just one run. At the time Gaikwad departed the innings, CSK needed 33 runs in 16 balls. Over number 18 just had four runs along with the wicket of set Gaikwad. The bowler, Pat Cummins.
30 runs required off 12 balls.
Lockie Ferguson to bowl to Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran and Jadeja plundered Ferguson for two fours and one six to close the 19th over yielding 20 runs from it.
The last over required 10 runs to win for CSK. Kamlesh Nagarkoti was the bowler and he did well to concede just three runs of the first four balls. With 7 runs needed off the last two balls, it was just too easy for Ravindra Jadeja who bludgeoned two sixes to seal the day for Chennai and dent KKR chances to make it to the playoffs.
Pat Cummins and Varun Chakravarthy picked up two wickets each. The rest of the bowlers went wicketless.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, for his match-winning innings of 72 runs off 53 balls with six 4s and two 6s, won his second man of the match award in as many matches.
