IPL 2020. Royal Challengers Bangalore have been doing pretty well in the IPL 2020. They are one of the three teams that are yet to lift the trophy though they have been in the finals three times but losing on all the occasions. Will they finally be able to lift the trophy in this IPL?
Always a favorite team to follow because of the massive names in the team. But even with the superstars, they haven’t been too successful for much of the seasons. Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Aaron Finch, Chris Morris, Yuzvendra Chahal are the names this time and the team is performing well this season and looks set to book their name in the final four teams.
IPL 2020 performance
IPL 2020 has been so far so good for Royal Challengers Bangalore. They are sitting comfortably at the third spot with six wins in nine games. Their batting and bowling departments have been performing well and players are winning the matches for the team. A look at some RCB stats this season:
Position on points table = 3
- Win/Loss = 6/3
- Points = 12
- Match 1 to Match 9 = W L W W L W W L W
Top 3 batsmen (Runs)
- Virat Kohli = 347
- Devdutt Padikkal = 296
- AB de Villiers = 285
Top 3 bowlers (Wickets)
- Yuzvendra Chahal = 13
- Chris Morris = 9
- Isuru Udana = 7
Royal Challengers Bangalore will be pretty comfortable going into the later part of the tournament. Their batsmen are performing well, their bowlers are picking wickets, and there seems to be a good combination in the team. They have found their winning XI combo and most probably will rely on them as they now look to book their spot in the final four.
Previous IPL record
Royal Challengers Bangalore are the third-best team that have reached the number of finals most times. A look at the teams that have played the most number of finals:
|Teams with the most number of finals|
|Sr No||Team||No of finals played||No of finals won|
|1||Chennai Super Kings||8||3|
|3||Royal Challengers Bangalore||3||0|
|4||Kolkata Knight Riders||2||2|
|7||Kings XI Punjab||1||0|
Sitting at the third spot with three finals to play but lost all of them. Definitely not the team you want to lose the final match of the competition. The latest of the three defeats came in 2016 in which Virat Kohli scored unrealistic 973 runs with four centuries to his name but again finished second losing to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final.
Will they stand a chance against mighty Mumbai Indians?
Clear-favorites Mumbai Indians are one of the dominant sides this season. They are at the number two spot just behind Delhi Capitals. With six wins in nine attempts, Mumbai with big names are still considered the side to lift the title but they have teams in their path that can give tough time to them.
Royal Challengers Bangalore is one of them. IPL 2020 has been a good season for them. The team beat MI in their previous meeting in this edition, though in a super over. But they are definitely a force to reckon and a force to beat. With big names like Kohli and de Villiers, who can win matches on their own, you can’t just relax till the final ball of the match.
The Opening combination
Devdutt Padikkal. Who is Devdutt Padikkal? Not many would’ve known him before the IPL 2020 but this season he is the star batsman for RCB. Opening the batting with Aaron Finch, Padikkal is the second-best among run-scorers, even ahead of the likes of AB de Villiers and Aaron Finch. He has done equally well at the opening position building partnerships to give Kohli, de Villiers, and the rest of the batsmen to come and have a whack at the end.
Aaron Finch has also given RCB some solid starts. With 205 runs, he is the fourth-best batsmen of the team. With that, RCB’s top four batsmen are the top four run-getters for the team. Both Paddikal and Finch have important roles to play at the top if they want to win the glory for the first time.
The Kohli-de Villiers dependence
Like other seasons, the team depends on Virat Kohli and de Villiers. Kohli, the top-scorer for the team and, de Villiers, the third-highest scorer. Struggling to find the middle of the bat and striking at a low pace, Kohli has seemed to find his rhythm back and top the batting charts for the team. With two fifties to his name, Kohli, the captain must lead the team from the front to qualify for the playoffs and to lift the title.
AB de Villiers has scored four half-centuries this season and earned three man of the match awards so far. He, too a player that can win matches for RCB from any situation. Once again, the team relies on the South African superstar if they want to go till the very end of the tournament.
Strong bowling performances
Chris Morris has just played four matches but he has picked nine wickets and has become the second-best bowler of the team. with an economy rate of just 5.25, Morris has become a vital part of the team displacing his national team-mate Dale Steyn.
Yuzvendra Chahal is the most successful bowler of the team with 13 wickets to his name. With slow turning pitches of UAE, Chahal remains a threat to the opposition teams and has a big role to play in the coming matches if they want to win the title.
The rest of the bowlers including Isuru Udana, Navdeep Saini, Washington Sundar, all have been performing well for the team. Udana has been picking wickets on a consistent basis, Saini is equally effective in the death-overs, and Sundar continues to bowl at unhittable lengths. All these factors make RCB a strong bowling unit.
