Islamabad United vs Quetta Gladiators Match Prediction, PSL 2020
Islamabad United play their first ‘home’ match of the 2020 Pakistan Super League at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, when they take on Quetta Gladiators in a repeat of the opening fixture of this year’s tournament. The match takes place on February 27 and the live action gets underway at 19:00 local time.
Quetta Gladiators won that first meeting of the season, starting their title defence in good form as Mohammad Hasnain took 4-25 and Azam Khan led the chase of 169 to win with 59 from 33 balls. Both plays starred again last time out, as the Gladiators beat Karachi Kings, but they suffered a six-wicket loss to Peshawar Zalmi in between.
Islamabad United, meanwhile, have won both matches since that opening defeat. Luke Ronchi hit 74 in a chase of 165 to beat Multan Sultans by eight wickets, while Shadan Khan took 2-14 and then hit 52 from 29 balls as Islamabad chased 183 to win a thriller against Lahore last time out – claiming a one-wicket win with one ball to spare.
Islamabad United have won the toss twice and fielded first on both occasions since losing the toss to Quetta first up. They may want to field first again.
Though a little cloudy, Rawalpindi should see no rain. The temperature will drop as the humidity rises, however.
Good pace for batting and fast bowling has been on show at Rawalpindi since top-tier cricket returned at the end of last year.
It was a thrilling win for Shadab Khan’s side in the last game against the Lahore Qalandars where their last wicket pair held their nerves to score the final 20 runs for the win. With this win, the side has now moved to the top of the points table and would now lock horns with Quetta Gladiators at their home ground. Khan would be aware of the fact that Gladiators are coming into this game after a big win and his side will need to come up with a strong performance to emerge victorious in this one.
The side will need a good start from Colin Munro and Luke Ronchi. The pair have had two failures in three games and need to do well against the quality bowling attack that Gladiators have. Dawid Malan has been consistent in the three games while Shadab Khan and Colin Ingram look in good form down the order. Hussain Talat, Asif Ali and Faheem Ashraf also have good abilities with the bat and can play good innings towards the end. Their bowlers were expensive in the last game apart from skipper Shadab Khan. They will need early wickets from Muhammad Musa and Faheem Ashraf. Hussain Talat and Amad Butt also need to chip in with good spells in the middle overs for the side.
Sarfaraz Ahmed’s side has looked good so far in the season and has won two out of their three games. In the last game against the Karachi Kings, they won by a convincing margin of 5 wickets in what was another strong performance from their batsmen and also their bowlers. The team is likely to face a major challenge when they play against the Islamabad United as their opponents have done well. Sarfaraz would expect a strong show from his players as they will be up against a noisy crowd that would be cheering for the home side.
Their batting is looking good at the moment as Jason Roy and Shane Watson have both done well in the previous games. They will be looking to provide another quality start to the side in the next game. In Ahmed Shedzad they have a good No. 3. Sarfaraz, Azam Khan, and Mohammad Nawaz also bring good abilities with the bat to the table and they will look to do well in the next game. Mohammad Hasnain has done well in the tournament with the ball and has to play an important role in this game. Sohail Khan and Naseem Shah need to pick wickets with the new ball and having the experience of Tymal Mills is a good asset for the side.
Our Prediction for Islamabad United vs Quetta Gladiators
Islamabad United shall win this game
The 9th game of the Pakistan Super League 2020 between Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators would be a very interesting contest. Both sides have won two out of their three games so far and look in good form. They are currently No. 1 and 2 on the points table and the side that wins the contest would create a strong position for itself for the rest of the tournament. There is a quality batting line-up on both the side and fireworks are likely at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium which has already seen some high scoring encounters.
The two sides match up well to one another both in batting as well as bowling departments but Islamabad United would be playing in front of their home crowd and this gives them a slight edge going into this game.
