Karachi Kings vs Lahore Qalandars 2nd SF Match Prediction, PSL 2020
The second semi-final of the Pakistan Super League 2020 will see Karachi Kings face-off against Lahore Qalandars. This penultimate match of the tournament will be played on March 17 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Live telecast is scheduled to begin at 7 PM local time.
Seven out of the nine completed matches, including the last four straight, played at this ground this PSL season have been won by the side batting second. And since the pitch is unlikely to change after the first-half of the game, the toss-winning team will most probably prefer chasing.
Weather is expected to remain clear throughout the day with chances of rain being slim to none. It will be slightly cool in the evening with temperatures likely to be around 22 degrees Celsius during the game. Light winds could blow from the west.
The Gaddafi Stadium has seen plenty of runs being scored in this year’s Pakistan Super League. 180+ has been achieved here on ten occasions which shows how good the pitch has been for batting. Expect another high-scoring thriller on Tuesday.
Karachi Kings played their last game of the league stage at Karachi against Quetta Gladiators. While Kings had won their previous two consecutive matches at the home venue, they lost to Quetta Gladiators for the 2nd time in PSL 2020 at Karachi. KRK has 2 wins and 2 losses in the last 4 matches including a loss against Lahore Qalandars. Karachi has played Lahore twice this season. While the Kings defeated Lahore by 10 wickets at home, they lost by 8 wickets defending 187 runs at Lahore.
Since Alex Hales has left PSL, Karachi Kings have played two matches. While they won 1 of these two matches, Kings’ batting performance hasn’t been ideal. KRK lost 6 wickets chasing 137 runs against Islamabad followed by a 150-5 total batting first against Quetta Gladiators at Karachi. While Iftikhar Ahmed was promoted to number 3, Cameron Delport scored a brilliant 62 off 44 balls at number 4.
Opening batsman Sharjeel Khan and Babar Azam need to play a big inning and build a partnership for the 1st wicket. Cameron Delport and Chadwick Walton are two crucial batsmen in the middle-order. In the last match, Mohammad Amir, Chris Jordan, Imad Wasim, and Umaid Asif were benched. However, tall these players have a big role to play for Kings with the ball.
Lahore Qalandars have 4 wins in the last 5 matches. The one loss came against Karachi Kings at an away venue. In that match, LHQ finished 150-5 batting first at Karachi. In addition to the failure in the batting department, Qalandars had failed to pick a single wicket defending the total. However, Lahore bounced back well in the next match at home against the table-topper Multan Sultans.
Shaheen Afridi, David Wiese, and Hafeez picked early wickets to put pressure on the batting team. However, Haris Rauf and Dilbar Hussain were expensive and wicketless. Qalandars ended up conceding 187 runs for 6 wickets. Chasing a big total at their home venue, Qalandars won by 9 wickets as Chris Lynn scored an unbeaten 113 off 55 balls.
In addition to Lynn, his opening partner Fakhar Zaman also looked in great touch scoring 57 off 35 balls in the chase. The last time LHQ played Karachi at this venue in Lahore, Sohail Akhtar (68*) and Ben Dunk (99*) helped the hosts chase down 190 runs with 8 wickets in hand.

The online betting sites have a clear favorite in Karachi Kings in the match winner market. However, the betting odds of 1.66 (60.24% probability) for KRK seem to be overhyped. While Karachi Kings have a strong bowling attack with Mohammad Amir, Chris Jordan, and Imad Wasim in the side, they’re struggling in the batting department. Lahore Qalandars, on the other hand, have a strong batting line-up with big hitters like Chris Lynn, and Fakhar Zaman in good form at the top.
In addition, Ben Dunk and Mohammad Hafeez can also play match-winning innings in the middle-order. Skipper Sohail Akhtar is a crucial batsman for Kings in the top 4. While betting sites have valued Lahore Qalandars at 2.10 (47.6% probability) betting odds, they surely have a better chance at defeating Kings at their home venue than suggested by the bookmakers.
