Lahore Qalandars vs Islamabad United Match Prediction, PSL 2020
Back to winning ways at last, Lahore Qalandars will hope another match in Lahore at the Gaddafi Stadium can inspire them to maintain that form. They face Islamabad United on March 4, with the live action getting underway at 19:00 local time.
After a seven-match losing streak stretching back to last season, the decision to bring Ben Dunk back into the team paid huge dividends last time out as he smashed 93 from 43 balls in a total of 209/5 against Quetta Gladiators. Salman Irshad then took 4-30 in a 37-run win.
While the Qalandars have got back to winning ways, Islamabad United are on a winless streak of their own. Defeats to Quetta and Karachi Kings, failing to defend 187/7 and 183/3 either side of a rained-off match, have seen them drop to fourth in the table.
Lahore Qalandars are still yet to win the toss at Gaddafi Stadium this season, but their performance last time out may convince them to bat first again.
With a storm brewing overnight, the humidity will rise and the chance of rain increases in Lahore in the evening. They will hope the prediction that the rain stays away until after this match rings true.
The Lahore wicket is nicely mixed, though it certainly favoured batting in the first innings last time out.
After three consecutive losses, Sohail Akhtar’s side finally tasted their first victory of the season as they won against the Quetta Gladiators by 37 runs in a high scoring game. The team which had arguably the strongest batting line-up in the tournament didn’t play to its potential in the previous games. They still have a chance of making it to the playoffs but will have to win their remaining matches. Their record against the Islamabad United isn’t great as they have lost the previous five games against them. Akhtar would look to carry the same momentum in the next game and keep their hopes alive for the rest of the season.
Their openers Chris Lynn and Fakhar Zaman are failing to convert their starts into big scores which are a big concern for the team at the moment. They need to improve upon this. Ben Dunk and Samit Patel played sensational knocks in the last game which makes their middle-order look good with the experience of Mohammad Hafeez. In Sohail Akhtar and Faizan Khan, they have good hitters in the lower order. It was a good bowling show from the side in the last game as Samit Patel and Dilbar Hussain kept up the pressure on the opponents. Salman Irshad was good with the ball as well but the side would need good show with the new ball from Shaheen Afridi who hasn’t bowled well in the season so far.
They seem to be going through a poor run at the moment after the good start to the season. Shadab Khan’s side has dropped to the fourth spot on the points table and needs to move this one to avoid dropping further. They went down by 5 wickets in their last game against the Karachi Kings after suffering a similar loss against Quetta Gladiators. Their bowlers have failed to defend big scores in both these games and this is a big concern for the side at the moment. Their batting form has been very good this season. Shadab Khan would like his side to continue with the good record they have against the Lahore Qalandars.
They have a good opening combination in Luke Ronchi and Colin Munro and both these players have done well so far in the tournament. Dawid Malan has also shown good form along with Colin Ingram which makes them a very strong batting line-up at the top. Rizwan Khan, Shadab Khan and Asif Ali with their range of strokes would come handy down the order. Shadab Khan has been fighting the lone battle with the ball in this season for the side. Other bowlers have gone for too many runs. The side will need a good start with the ball from Rumman Raees and Muhammad Musa with the new ball and expect a good show from Faheem Ashraf and Ahmed Saif Abdullah.
