Lahore Qalandars vs Peshawar Zalmi Match Prediction, PSL 2020
Winless Lahore Qalandars and inconsistent Peshawar Zalmi are both looking to bounce back from recent defeats when they meet at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in the Pakistan Super League. The match takes place on February 28 and is scheduled to start at 20:00 local time.
The Qalandars have lost both games so far, losing out in a thriller against Islamabad United last time out. Mohammad Hafeez hit 98* and Shaheen Afridi took 4-18 but it was to count for nothing as Islamabad’s last-wicket pairing led them to a one-wicket win with a ball to spare.
Peshsawar Zalmi, meanwhile, have won one from three so far – a Kamran Akmal-inspired win against Quetta Gladiators. Most recently, however, they were all out for 123 as they suffered a heavy defeat against Multan Sultans.
Lahore Qalandars are yet to win the toss this season, and have been asked to bat first both times – they may choose to field first this time.
Rawalpindi is set for rain all day on Friday and scattered thunderstorms. The evening will be humid and the chance of showers sits at 50 per cent.
Rawalpindi is generally a quick wicket, with good pace and carry.
Lahore Qalandars will go into this match looking for their 1st win in PSL 2020. Playing at Lahore, the Qalandars lost 2 in 2 matches defending 138 and 182 runs. Mohammad Hafeez scored an unbeaten 98 off 57 balls at number 3 while others in the middle-order failed in the last match.
Qalandars reached 182-6 on the back of Hafeez’s inning in addition to a quick 9-balls 19-runs from David Wiese at number 7. Lahore’s batting strength lies at the top with Fakhar Zaman, Chris Lynn, and Mohammad Hafeez in the top 3. Sohail Akhtar also has a crucial role to play at number 4.
Shaheen Afridi is in great form with 5 wickets in the last two games. He has also been economical in his spells while Haris Rauf has conceded runs at 10 and above economies. In addition to Haris Rauf, Usman Shinwari has been expensive and wicketless while Samit Patel’s left-arm orthodox hasn’t made a big impact.
With 1 win in 3 matches, PSZ is placed at number 5 in the points table. The batting line-up has struggled in all 3 matches, except for Kamran Akmal’s match-winning hundred against Quetta Gladiators chasing 149 runs at Karachi. Tom Banton and Shoaib Malik have failed on all occasions in the top 4 which will be a big concern for skipper Darren Sammy going into this match.
Haider Ali scored 47 off 27 balls at number 3 against Multan Sultans as Peshawar finished with 123-10 batting first. He wasn’t supported by any other batsmen in the top 4 Akmal and Malik. Looking at how often the top-order has failed, middle-order batsmen Liam Livingstone and Liam Dawson will need to step up and hold the guard for Peshawar Zalmi.
Hasan Ali and Rahat Ali open the bowling attack for PSZ. The two found early success in the last match while Ali was wicket-less yet economical in Zalmi’s only win so far. Mohammad Amir Khan and Wahab Riaz are the bowlers to watch out for in Peshawar’s camp.

The online betting sites have valued Lahore Qalandars at 1.80 odds while Zalmi follows at 1.95. It is apparent that the bookmakers don’t seem to have a clear favorite between the two teams. One of the reasons would be the batting struggles in both teams. However, looking at Mohammad Hafeez bouncing back and the potential that Chris Lynn has as an opening batsman, Lahore Qalandars’ will have an edge in the batting department.
In addition, Lahore Qalandars’ will be banking on Shaheen Afridi’s form in the bowling department while Peshawar has Wahab Riaz, Hasan Ali, and Rahat Ali to dent Lahore’s batting line-up. Peshawar Zalmi will back their bowlers to get on top of the game against Lahore Qalandars.
