IPL 2020: Rajasthan Royals Inconsistent but have Potential and Power to go higher

Rajasthan Royals
Rajasthan Royals started well but finish number eight

Where Did They finish?

Rajasthan Royals finished last on the points table with six wins in 14 matches.
They were in contention for the playoffs up and till their final game, but a heavy defeat pushed them to the bottom spot.

Jofra Archer has been a brilliant performer this season for the Rajasthan Royals.

He has picked up wickets regularly in the powerplay and has also been tough to get away in the death.
His yorker to get Chris Gayle for 99 is something that will surely be remembered in IPL 2020.

Along with the ball, Archer has also done an excellent job with the bat in IPL 2020.
Sanju Samson has also done well this season, and unlike in previous seasons, Samson ensured he maintains his form throughout the season.

He did have a slight drop in performance through the middle but returned well by the end of the season.
There have also been some youngsters like Riyan Parag and Karthik Tyagi who have shown some potential.

In particular, Karthik Tyagi has had a good season showing his ability to bowl at a good pace and restrict some of the best finishers in death.
Ben Stokes has also done well this season after struggling to make an impact in the previous seasons.

The standout performer, however, has got to be Rahul Tewatia.
Rahul Tewatia came in as a pinch hitter and took apart Sheldon Cottrell, hitting him for five sixes.

He announced himself as a finisher, bowled well, and became a player to watch out for.

Things that didn’t Go Well:

Despite having quality batsmen and inform players like Stokes and Samson, the batting seemed a little off for the Rajasthan Royals.
They were inconsistent, and there were a lot of changes in the lineup.

Ben Stokes finally struck form with the bat after two silent seasons

They tried five different opening pairs, and it took a while for the openers to get going.
The last opening pair, however, seems a potential one for the upcoming season.

With Uthappa in his favored position and Stokes doing well after a poor start, the opening pair can well be retained.
There have been few calls such as, Unadkat bowling the 19th over against Royal Challengers, which may have damaged their chances.

The bowling was lacking bite as there was hardly any support for Jofra Archer.
While Jofra Archer bowled economically in the powerplay, the Royals couldn’t keep up the other bowlers’ pressure.

Shreyas Gopal, in particular, has been through a quiet series.
He has been a star performer for the Rajasthan Royals in the past, picking up big wickets in the middle- overs, but this season was slightly off for him.

Being a core member of the Rajasthan Royals side over the years, Gopal’s performance is crucial in the next season.
Tyagi has been there to share the load but is inexperienced.

Unadkat and Rajpoot’s likes are there but haven’t been good enough to build on the pressure created by Archer.

Things to be Relooked at before IPL 2021:

Jofra Archer has been the best pacer for Rajasthan Royals with 20 wickets

The bowling attack is a discussion topic for the Royals as they could do better with a pacer to support Archer and Karthik Tyagi.

The opening pair has been changed five times this season, and the Royals need to find the right batting order early next season.

Star Performers:

Jofra Archer:
Archer has been among the best bowlers in IPL 2020 with 20 wickets.

He has been adamant about getting away with his accurate Yorkers at a high pace.

Rahul Tewatia:

Tewatia has been a surprise performer for this IPL.

He has taken up a finisher’s role very well and has shown himself as a talented all-rounder.
He hit 255 runs and took ten wickets in the 14 matches this season.
