Shane Warne – Back to work at Dream11 IPL 2020

Dream11 IPL 2020:Shane Warne, the three-time World Cup winner with 708 Test wickets to his name, has been appointed the team’s mentor and brand ambassador for IPL 2020.

Warne, a regular figure at the IPL coming every year doing commentary and engaging with players and staff but this time, he’ll be working closely with the franchise team that he had played for.

In the inaugural IPL edition, Warne had captained Rajasthan Royals to their to-date only title and the only appearance in the final. The Warne-led team beat Chennai Super Kings and lifted the trophy back in 2008.

On Sunday, he was announced as the brand ambassador for the franchise for the second consecutive year. As far as the mentorship, he’ll be working in close with the team head coach, Andrew McDonald, his former teammate, and former Australian captain Steve Smith.

Shane Warne said in a statement released by the franchise, “On my dual role, it’s always a great feeling to be back with Royals – my team, my family.”

“It’s exciting to be working across all elements of this franchise that I love. We have worked towards our vision of becoming a global team that fans around the world love and follow. This season I am looking forward to working as a team mentor and joining up with an excellent backroom staff in Zubin Bharucha and Andrew McDonald. “

“Hopefully, we can have a successful season and achieve big things in the coming months.”

As a cricket great with insight of vast cricket knowledge, along with the likes of Steve Smith, Jos Buttler, David Miller, Jofra Archer, Ben Stokes, Andrew Tye, Warne will have plenty of young bloods and spinners in the Royals set up to work with.

The Royals’ COO Jake McCrum has welcomed Warne back into their set-up. He said, “He is one of the all-time greats of the game and is very special to us here at Rajasthan Royals. Shane is someone who exemplifies our vision of driving innovation and we’re delighted to have him with us supporting both the growth of our franchise globally, while also motivating our players for success on the field.”

Apart from the inaugural edition, the Royals do not have much to show off. They have pretty disappointing results on numerous occasions. Royals’ yearly results are:

  • 2008 – Winner
  • 2009 – 6th
  • 2010 – 7th
  • 2011 – 6th
  • 2012 – 7th
  • 2013 – 3rd
  • 2014 – 5th
  • 2015 – 4th
  • 2016 – Suspended
  • 2017 – Suspended
  • 2018 – 4th
  • 2019 – 7th
  • 2020 – ???

With his instinctive, dominating, and mentoring role, Warne can produce immense changes in terms of results for the team and the team will certainly look for the change of fortunes at the hands of Warne with such a power-battery team.

Rajasthan Royals will open their IPL 2020 campaign against Chennai Super Kings at Sharjah on September 22.
