Shaw’s 64, bowlers hand CSK second defeat in a row

Prithvi Shaw, the boy who led India to a 4th U19 World Cup title two years ago, led Delhi Capitals to a comfortable 44-run victory against Chennai Super Kings in the 7th match of IPL 2020.

Delhi, after a thrilling super-over victory of Kings XI Punjab, handed Chennai Super Kings their second-consecutive defeat of the season after they lost their previous match to Rajasthan Royals.

Chennai Super Kings – DC bowlers outclass CSK batsmen

For the third time, Murali Vijay and Shane Watson opened the innings for Chennai, and for the third time, the opening pair didn’t accumulate much in the innings. Both the batsmen, for the third time got out without a big score. Vijay got out on 10 off 15 balls and Watson got out on 14 off 16 balls. Not only they scored less but also ate up a lot of deliveries.

The leading run-scorer of the tournament, Faf du Plessis was once again among the run-getters for Chennai. 54-run partnership with Kedar Jadhav help stabilized the innings but again the partnership was built in 39 balls, leaving the impossible task for the death overs.

81 runs were required in the last five overs when Jadhav got out in the 16th over bringing, not Sam Curran or Ravindra Jadeja but this time MS Dhoni on the crease. But the initial slow start had made the chase impossible for the team.

Kagiso Rabada picked up three wickets for 26 runs

It was all too late for CSK in the end. Required scores, 75 runs from 24 balls, 65 from 18 balls, 55 from 12 balls, 49 from 6 balls, and CSK lost by 44 runs in the end.

South African bowlers Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje were the top bowlers for DC. The former picked up three wickets for 26 runs and the latter picked up two wickets for 21 runs.

After been the player of the match in the opening match of the season, Ambati Rayudu hadn’t recovered yet from his hamstring injury. With two losses in three matches, CSK desperately needs him for the next matches.

Delhi Capitals Innings – Prithvi Shaw & co get to the big total

Chennai Super Kings for the third time in as many matches, won the toss and sending the opposition to bat first, that is what to be the trend in IPL 2020.

Prithvi Shaw, now 20-years old, scored his 9th T20 fifty to set the initial fire of the DC innings. Playing with his senior partner on the other end, Shikhar Dhawan who was quite happy to give strike to his junior mate, made in-roads for the coming batsmen.

The innings was fueled by Prithvi Shaw’s 64 run innings that had nine fours and one maximum in it. Dhawan was the rotator. The pair added 94 runs for the first-wicket before Dhawan was out.

Man of the match award winner, Prithvi Shaw, scored 64 runs off 43 balls

With a late help from Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, the score reached 175-3. Shaw was the top-scorer, made 64 runs off 43 balls.

Piyush Chawla, who went for four sixes in his opening over in the previous match, was the strike bowler for CSK picking up two wickets for 33 runs. Sam Curran, who is playing in place of the injured Dwayne Bravo, is keeping his place well. He picked up one wicket for 27 runs.

The leading run-scorer and the leading wicket-taker of the tournament are of CSK’s squad in the shape of Faf du Plessis and Sam Curran but Chennai is finding difficulty in chasing targets. Their opening partnership is not working leaving up too much work for du Plessis and co. The leaving of Suresh Raina caused a mystery and it now seen that he is badly missed by the team.

Prithvi Shaw, for his match-defining innings of 64 runs of 43 deliveries, was awarded the man of the match award.
