Sydney Thunder vs Perth Scorchers T20 Prediction

Who will win Sydney Thunder vs Perth Scorchers, BBL 2020?

Perth Scorchers and Sydney Thunder go head-to-head in their final league game of the 2019-20 Big Bash League with a play-off spot up for grabs. The match, at Sydney’s Showground Stadium, takes place on January 26 and the live action starts at 14:45 local time.

Sydney Thunder start the final round of round-robin fixtures outside of the play-off places after losing to Hobart Hurrcianes last time out – bowled out for 128 despite Alex Hales scoring 63 from 43 balls – to leave them with five wins from 12 completed games.

Perth Scorchers, on the other hand, have not suffered a no result like the Thunder have. They have completed all 13 matches and have six wins to their name. They could not seal their play-off spot last time out, however, despite Liam Livingstone hitting 79 from 54 balls in a total of 165/7 – only enough for a 16-run defeat to Adelaide Strikers.

SYT vs PRS Toss Prediction

Sydney Thunder won the toss and batted first last time these met and regretted the decision. The Scorchers might be happy to field first again.

SYT vs PRS Weather Report

Though there is still a 25 per cent chance of rain, the worst of Sunday’s weather should have passed an otherwise warm Sydney by the time this games starts.

SYT vs PRS Pitch Condition

The Sydney wicket does assist the seamers – as Daniel Sams’ form can prove this season.

Sydney Thunder

It was a below-par performance from Callum Ferguson’s side in the last game against the Hobart Hurricanes. Being bowled out for 128 runs at this juncture hasn’t helped the confidence of the side. The 57 run loss has also done harm to their net run rate which will be very important for the side as they aim to make it to the top five. They will need to register a massive win against the Scorchers to be in the hunt for a place in the playoffs. Having lost badly against the Scorchers earlier in the season the side will need to show strong character in the next game to win it.

The side will need a good start from Alex Hales and Usman Khawaja at the top. They have been the run-scorers for the side this season. Ferguson hasn’t had a good hit for a while and needs to do well in the middle in the company of Alex Ross. In Jay Lenton, Daniel Sams and Chris Morris they have good batting to follow and all these players need to play complementary roles against a strong opponent. Jonathan Cook and Arjun Nair bowled well in the last game and will need to pick wickets early. Chris Morris and Gurinder Sandhu have to bowl well in the middle overs after going for runs in the last game and Sams has been among the top wicket-takers this season which will make him confident ahead of the game.

Perth Scorchers

Mitchell Marsh would be very upset with the kind of show he put up against the Adelaide Strikers in the last game. Their bowlers had a bad day at the office and allowed the opponents to put up a big score on the board and failed to chase it down after a relatively good start. With this loss, the side has dropped down to fourth place in the points table. They have to win the next game to qualify for the playoffs. The side would take confidence from the big win they had registered against the Thunder earlier in the season and would be looking to repeat that performance in this must-win game.

The side will need a good start at the top, from Josh Inglis and Liam Livingstone. These two players have done well in the series and in this important game will have to lay a strong platform. In Kurtis Patterson and Mitchell Marsh, they have good players in the middle. The side also draws its strength from the long tail with Aston Agar, Cameron Bancroft, and Ashton Turner being good hitters of the ball. Their bowlers took a beating in the last game and the side will expect good start with the new ball from Andrew Tye and Jhye Richardson. Chris Jordan had had a good season with the ball. Fawad Ahmed did well in the last game and shall add to the side’s confidence. Agar and Marsh add variety to this bowling line-up.
