Is it time to try Tahir?

Will Imran Tahir be crucial on the tiring UAE pitches

Imran Tahir finished IPL 2019 as the leading wicket-taker. He was a crucial bowler for CSK with his aggressive leg-spin.
Having retired from one-day international cricket after the World Cup, Tahir has been a prominent member of T20 leagues worldwide. The 41-year old was most recently a part of the CPL, taking 15 wickets in eleven matches.

He is yet to play a game this season for the Chennai Super Kings, struggling at seventh position.
CSK has played with a different combination this season. They have used Sam Curran, a talented left-arm pacer and aggressive batsman, and leg-spinners Piyush Chawla and Karn Sharma.

With two overseas spots taken by the openers, Faf Du Plessis and Shane Watson, and the other two by allrounders, Dwayne Bravo and Sam Curran, it has been challenging for captain Dhoni to fit Tahir into the side.

Coming into the second half of the tournament, the pitches have begun to get tired, with scores getting lower and lower. Evidence of pitches getting tired is clear with batsman (except Ab De Villiers) struggling to score in Sharjah, a hunting ground for many batsmen.

The Chennai Super Kings have many spinners in their armory, and with pitches tiring, the situation is perfectly suited for their bowlers.

With Imran Tahir, the super kings would have an aggressive bowling option. His ability to pick up wickets in the middle overs may help the super kings as they have struggled to pick up wickets in the middle despite restricting them well.

Imran Tahir comes in with a lot of experience and will know well how to fight in a do or die situation in which CSK is fast approaching.
Imran Tahir in place of Sam Curran or Dwayne Bravo may be a suitable change welcomed by the fans. The Chennai Super Kings have already got a deep batting line-up, and bringing in Tahir would allow the side to plan better on their roles.

The Chennai Super Kings are on the brink of elimination and need to find answers for their questions if they wish to get back in the tournament. Having lost crucial players early on, it could be beneficial to look at the experienced Imran Tahir for answers.

They will be taking on the Sunrisers Hyderabad today night, and let’s wait and see what changes they make. A win can help them stay relevant in this season’s IPL, while a defeat would push them down further.
