IPL 2020: Who out of Ferguson, Narine, and Cummins

With Narine having his action cleared, Ferguson making an excellent introduction with the Kolkata Knight Riders, and Pat Cummins defining consistency with his economy, the Knight Riders will face few selection headaches as we advance.

As the IPL rules permit only four overseas players aside, the Knight Riders will have to check their combination.

Being the captain and excellent middle-order batsmen, Morgan takes up a spot while Andre Russel takes up the second with his ability to finish well with the bat and take wickets.
With Morgan and Russel fixed, it leaves two spots available.

Sunil Narine is likely to comeback having been a proven matchwinner in the past

Sunil Narine has been a proven matchwinner throughout his IPL career. He is seen as a trump card for the Knight Riders and has been called up to bowl the crucial overs numerous times.

In the past, Narine has proven to be a handy batsman as well. He has been used as an opener and is still used as a floater in the lineup. His ability to clear the boundary makes him a useful player.

Having been a matchwinner and a regular for the Knight Riders since 2012, it isn’t easy to see Narine out of the side, considering he is fit and ready to bowl.

Narine has taken five wickets in six matches so far. His economy rate is 8.09.

He has been used predominantly in the second half of the innings. He started the tournament as an opener with the bat as well.

He has pushed down the order with low returns, putting an end to Narine, the pinch hitter for now.

Pat Cummins has taken three wickets so far but has bowled well in the powerplays in IPL 2020

The Knight Riders bought Pat Cummins for 15.5Cr.
He is one of the best bowlers in world cricket and is also in the middle of a decent season.

Despite not being among the wickets, Pat Cummins has done an excellent job putting pressure on batting sides during the powerplay.
He has helped the Knight Riders get off to good starts with the ball, although he hasn’t been at his best in the death overs.

Along with his bowling, Cummins has been pretty useful in the lower order. He’s scored 126 runs and chipped in with a match-saving half-century against the Mumbai Indians.

Coming in with a high price tag and having played all the games so far, the Knight Riders camp seems to trust him a lot, while Pat Cummins has not disappointed as well.

Lockie Ferguson has impressed with five wicket, three in the second innings and two in the super over.

Over the last couple of years, Lockie Ferguson has turned heads with his raw pace. His ability to bowl 145+ with ease makes him a very threatening character.

He played his first match of IPL 2020 against the Sunriser Hyderabad. He was selected in the side hours after Narine was taken off the warning list.

In what could have been a brief stint for Lockie Ferguson, he ensured the captain and coaches would have a lot to discuss while selecting the upcoming games’ side.

He picked up three wickets during the defense of 163. His victims were Kane Williamson, Priyam Garg, and Manish Pandey.

His three wickets helped the Knight Riders fightback as they had gotten off to a bad start with the Sunrisers openers going well.

He maintained a good economy as well, conceding only 15 runs during his quota.

With the game ending in a tie, Ferguson was trusted with the super over.

Ferguson faced up against David Warner and Johnny Bairstow at first. Ferguson later faced up against Abdul Samad after having bowled David Warner.

Ferguson repeated his brilliance, hitting the woodwork again while Abdul Samad was on strike.

Ferguson stuck to his strengths with a tough matchup and picked up two more wickets in the super over, leaving his side with just three runs to chase.
With Ferguson coming good in his first game of the season and Narine likely to come back being a proven matchwinner, leaving Cummins out of the side is possible.

Leaving Cummins out seems a logical move, seeing how Cummins has not been among the wickets, despite maintaining reasonable control.
Playing Ferguson in place of Cummins would also bring a fresh face into the bowling attack.

The one disadvantage with this swap could be the batting asset that Cummins provides.
Another left-field option could be to play all three bowlers while leaving out Andre Russel.

With Andre Russel not having a great time so far with the bat, the Knight Riders could consider resting him for a game or two.

Doing so will lift some pressure of Russel and will also give both Cummins and Ferguson both a chance to show why they deserve a spot in the 11.
There are numerous possibilities regarding who makes it to the eleven and who stays out, and it will be interesting to see how the Knight Riders go about their team selection.
